 Bruce Nixon Honored for Exceptional Volunteer Service

On April 7, 2010 Bruce Nixon was honored by NAIFA-RI for his exceptional and sustained volunteer service to the members of our association.  Since joining the Rhode Island Life Underwriters in 1993, Bruce served as a member virtually every committee and was Chair of Membership, APIC, Programs and Golf committees as well as providing testimony on legislative matters at the RI Statehouse.  He was a member of the Board of Directors from 1997 until 2009 when he sold APPS, the company he served as president since 1992, and retired.

It was noted during the presentation ceremony that in addition to being a business leader with a commitment to serving, Bruce Nixon also spent three decades serving our nation in the United States Army - ten years regular Army with 2 tours of duty in Vietnam - and twenty years in the Army Reserve retiring as a full Colonel and Brigade Commander.  An avid sailor, skier and camper, he has been traveling the nation with his wife Mary in their 38' Phaeton RV.

The R. Bruce Nixon Volunteer Award may be awarded annually in the future to a NAIFA-RI volunteer who fits the criteria that is currently under development.
