Richard A. Koob, AEP, CASL, ChFC, CLU, entered the life insurance industry in 1967 with Northwestern Mutual. He started as a college-student agent on campus in his junior year, later converted to full time. Subsequently took a position in the home office as a recruiter in the College Marketing Division and then returned to the field as a Financial Representative in 1973.
Since then, he has received the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA) National Quality Award, the National Sales Achievement Award, as well as the NAIFA Quality Award. He is a 40 year member of the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT), and a member of the Association for Advanced Life Underwriting (AALU) and their Legislative Circle for 20 years.
His history of service to our industry includes serving as Captain of the MDRT Program Development Committee three times and Chairman of the local and state MDRT Membership Communications Committee. In addition, he has served on numerous committees of MDRT; chairman of 5, overall holding more than 75 different positions, including Divisional Vice-President, twice.
In addition he serves as a Director of the NAIFA Wisconsin Committee on Political Action since 1988. He is an IFAPAC Diplomat. He is Past President of the Waukesha Association and the Wisconsin Association. He is recipient of the 1982 and 1993 Waukesha Association Distinguished Service Award. He is the 1991 recipient of the Wisconsin Association Distinguished Service Award.
He has served as Chairman of the Committee on Associations and is a Past Chairman of the Convention Support Group. In 1996 he was elected to the NAIFA Board of Trustees, and re-elected in 1998. He was elected Secretary in 2000. In September 2002 he became President.
During that term, he formed the Transformation Task Force, the largest task force ever assembled in NAIFA history. Since then, Koob served as a Member of the Executive Committee as Chairman of the Life and Health Insurance Foundation for Education (LIFE). In addition, he is Co-Chair of the Industry Task Force for the Future. He received the John Newton Russell Memorial Award in 2013.
Koob is a Charter Member and Past President of the Waukesha County Estate Planning Council. He served on the Insurance Committee of the Waukesha Area Chamber of Commerce. Other service included Salvation Army Advisory Board, Waukesha Noon Lions Club, Executive Committee Waukesha County Republican Party, Knights of Columbus. He chaired the Catholic Memorial Crusader Auction in 1993 and 1996 and is Past Vice-President of his parish council. He is the current Trustee-Treasurer at St. Mary Catholic Church. Koob Serves on Congressman Paul Ryan’s Financial Services & Insurance Advisory Board. A veteran of the United States Army, he is a past recipient of the Governors Award for Outstanding Service.
Koob and his wife, Judy, reside in Waukesha, Wisconsin. They have three adult children; Kimberly, Melissa and Christopher.
